Historic City Gardens is a community-based Ornamental Horticultural 501c3 nonprofit, active in both Harrisburg and Philadelphia.
This nonprofit was started in Philadelphia in 2000. From 2004 to 2011, Historic City Gardens came under an umbrella nonprofit, now called — Urban Affairs Coalition. In 2011, Historic City Gardens acquired our own 501c3. Then, in 2013, we expanded to Harrisburg.
In total, Historic City Gardens has created nearly 20 Gardens and maintained each Garden for a particular length of time. Throughout the Pandemic, Historic City Gardens worked tirelessly to create a 2021 Spring, City Beautiful 2.0 Garden Tour in Midtown to forward Harrisburg’s City Beautiful 2.0 initiative. At the same time, we worked on 6 Gardens and 4 front spaces.
In Harrisburg, our Director, Ms. Deckter, is a member of the Committee for the Restoration of Harrisburg’s City Greenhouse. She’s participated at the Historic Civic Club and worked on their “Civility with a Purpose” Garden. She is scheduled to present at the Harrisburg Advisory Environmental Council on the “Environmental Benefits of Ornamental Horticulture”
